Settings for Jamf Now
Apple device management can be time-consuming work, especially if IT is not your day job. The following details outline how to manage iOS devices within the Jamf Now cloud-based solution.
Looking to access the settings of a deployed iPad?
All iPads running in the gallery have various levels of security to prevent unwanted user interactions. Guided Access creates a kiosk-like mode that helps prevent users from changing the gallery experience. To get past these initial settings, triple-click the home button and the device should prompt you with a passcode to disable Guided Access. See 1Password for the passcode.
Devices
Follow naming conventions for adding new devices. Typically names follow the pattern: CMOA + CMP Inventory ID. See back of the device for CMP Inventory sticker.
Apps
All apps are managed via the Volume Purchasing Program and can be purchased by the account administrator. See 1Password for details.
Blueprints
Blueprints are defined on a case-by-case bases. Key blueprints include:
API - Used for staff iPod Touch devices
Education: Students - Used for Education programs
iPod: In Gallery - Used for audio playback
Kiosk - Basic kiosk setup
Kiosk Desktop - Light governance of MacMini devices
Marketing - Random usage as event media player
Registrar’s Office - Used for onsite documentation
Video (several blueprints) - used to setup and administer looping video kiosks
Web Development - General testing
Apple Push Notification (APN)
Required for control of the device, Apple’s Push Notification service has an annual update process. Jamf will alert administrators when updates to these certificates are needed.
More details to come.
