E-commerce

A growing list of products are available for embedding on our websites. The following is a short review about how to manage those items and their appearance on the web.

Product Names

Be sure to review product names before embedding the product widget into a calendar event or webpage. Often when product names are entered into the system (Siriusware) there is little context to inform the name. As a result they can sound too generic or in some cases just bizarre.

What to Do:

  • Clearly and succinctly title the product being purchased.

  • Be specific. Where possible, do not repeat the product name.

  • Does your event repeat? It might need Timed Ticketing.

  • Avoid repeating the page title. This can be disorienting when reading the page from top down.

  • In cases where you need to add a date to the title, to improve readability, place a hyphen between the title and the event date.

Examples:

  • No Good - “Experiment Cyanotype”

  • Good - “Experimenting with Cyanotype”

  • Better - “Experimenting with Cyanotype Workshop”

  • Best - [TBD]

Product Appearance

All products use shortcodes to embed content into webpages through the WordPress Admin. A complete list of shortcodes is available from the Readme hosted on GitHub. Web Managers have access to editing the look and feel of these products.

If any changes to the defaults are needed, please submit those requests through Web Request, and the Web Manager can assist you.

Shopping Cart

The shopping cart pages are hosted on the https://sales.carnegiemuseums.org sub-domain and are managed through the Sales CMS.

  • Appearance of the shopping cart or any e-commerce page hosted on the Sales sub-domain is managed through CSS files hosted on that domain. Access to the e-commerce template code can be found in the Sales CMS. See 1Password for details.

  • Access to Google Analytics and GTM containers can also be found in the Sales CMS.

  • Access to the FTP account for uploading CSS and JS files can also be found in 1Password.

If any changes are needed, please submit those requests through Web Request, and the Web Manager can assist you.
